INSTITUTIONS, DIVERSITY &

CHANGE IN THE EUROPEAN UNION

This module deals with institutions, structures, and processes that have shaped the nature and structure of the contemporary European Union through cases and studies that focus primarily on issues related to Europe and are significant for India. Both Europe and India are pluralistic global communities that share a lot –antiquity, traditions, histories, past, cultures, plurality, and cultural diversity, both are democracies committed to human rights, an independent judiciary, and free press. India and Europe are multicultural civilizations that are rich repositories of memories, refinement, of values that are mature and distilled. Both are playing and are required to play a strategic role in today’s rapidly changing and globalising world. India and Europe are bearers of foundational ideals of special relevance to the contemporary and modern world, ideas that necessitate a combination of the ancient and the contemporary, of the old and the new, of the past and the future.
